Scarlet Page is the daughter of Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and was born in London. She has always been interested in photography and graduated from the University of Westminster, with a degree in Photography, Film and Video in the early 1990s. Following an apprenticeship with noted photographer Ross Halfin she developed her own documentary-style live and still portraiture. Her first extensive commission was to accompany The Smashing Pumpkins and Beastie Boys on an American tour in 1994.
Her first major album shoot came a year later for The Verve release of A Northern Soul but perhaps her most famous photograph was for the Welsh Band Stereophonics. She shot the photograph for the cover of the album Performance and Cocktails released in 1999. She set up the shoot at a football pitch under the Westway in London, it shows a couple kissing in the centre of the frame. The model was 27-year-old Lucy Joplin who has since explained in an interview that the faraway look in her eyes was the result of consuming absinthe and opium the night before.
Page then went on to work with a number of other musicians including Travis and Robbie Williams. For Williams’ album Sing When You’re Winning she provided the stills for the artwork, as well as content for Williams’ 2001 tour photojournal Somebody Someday and the subsequent DVD release Nobody Someday.
After the release of their debut album Permission To Land in 2003, she was appointed the official photographer for the British rock band The Darkness. She went on tour with them from 2003 to 2005 documenting their shows and press in the UK, Australia and North America.
Page is renowned for her calm demeanour and professional approach even in the heady world of musical touring. She has travelled the world extensively with bands such as the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones and Stereophonics.
Her photographs have been used not just on album covers but tour material, book covers and as collected prints. She continues to be commissioned by all the major record labels as well as magazines such as Rolling Stone, Mojo, Classic Rock, Kerrang! and Q Magazine. She is also well known for her charitable work for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Warchild. Check out her website here.
